Clinical studies across different populations have shown astaxanthin’s effects on key markers of inflammation, including CRP, IL-6 and TNF-α, as well as immune response and oxidative stress.
A clinical study from Youssef et al., 2025 found that astaxanthin significantly reduced key inflammatory markers, including IL-6, TNF-α and C-reactive protein (CRP), while improving disease severity scores in patients with pneumonia.
A clinical study from Grigorian et al., 2025 found that astaxanthin supplementation for 8 weeks reduced erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), a clinical marker of inflammation, alongside improvements in clinical outcomes and quality of life in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
A clinical study by Baralic et al., 2015 found that astaxanthin supplementation for 90 days reduced high-sensitivity CRP and increased salivary IgA in trained soccer players, indicating a reduced systemic inflammatory response and improved redox balance.
A clinical study by Park et al., 2010 found that astaxanthin supplementation for 8 weeks reduced C-reactive protein and 8-OHdG, a marker of oxidative DNA damage, while increasing T- and B-cell proliferation and natural killer cell activity.
